Rikke and Clément's wedding in Middelfart was one of those days that felt warm, joyful and effortless from beginning to end. Their Danish-French wedding brought together family and friends from several countries for an intimate spring celebration filled with sunshine, laughter and beautiful moments by Lillebælt.
The wedding took place on one of the first truly warm days of May. With blue skies, calm sea air and everything located within walking distance, the day unfolded naturally without ever feeling rushed.
What makes this wedding particularly special is that it showcases why Middelfart is such a fantastic wedding destination on Fyn. From the historic church to the waterfront, harbour area and reception at CLAY Museum, the entire day took place within a small and incredibly scenic part of town.

Ceremony at Middelfart Church
The ceremony took place at Middelfart Church, one of the town's most recognisable historic landmarks. Located close to the old harbour, the church offers plenty of space for guests while still feeling intimate during the ceremony. The church itself dates back to the medieval period and has served as a central part of Middelfart for centuries.
The ceremony lasted approximately one hour and included four hymns. The atmosphere felt emotional throughout, especially during the entrance, exchange of rings and the moment the couple walked back out together through the rice toss surrounded by family and friends.
The bride wore a timeless long wedding dress paired with an elegant veil that moved beautifully in the spring wind outside the church. One of the things that stood out most throughout the day was how naturally the two of them fit together. The groom brought such an easy and welcoming energy to everyone around him, while the bride carried herself with quiet confidence and happiness throughout the celebration.
Because many guests had travelled to be there, the atmosphere felt especially meaningful. There was a genuine feeling that everyone was fully present and enjoying the moment together.
Walking from the Church to CLAY Museum
One of my favourite parts of the day was the walk from Middelfart Church to CLAY Museum.
Instead of driving between locations, we simply walked through the old harbour area, past the waterfront and along the Ceramic Route towards the museum. The route takes around 15 minutes and offers a beautiful mix of old maritime surroundings, views of Lillebælt, small harbour details and modern architecture.
For wedding photography, this creates an incredible advantage. Within a short distance, couples can have portraits by the water, around the harbour, in the historic town centre and beside modern Scandinavian architecture without losing valuable time travelling.
The Ceramic Route itself has become one of Middelfart's unique cultural attractions, connecting the museum, town centre and harbour through ceramic artworks and installations.

Reception at CLAY Museum
The reception took place on the terrace at CLAY Keramikmuseum Danmark overlooking Lillebælt.
Interestingly, CLAY is not a traditional wedding venue. The couple had previously celebrated a birthday there and completely fell in love with the atmosphere, the views and the surroundings. Because of that personal connection, they asked whether it would be possible to hold their reception at the museum.
With sunshine, calm weather and guests gathered outside on the terrace, it turned out to be the perfect choice.
CLAY is the largest museum for ceramic art in the Nordic region and is beautifully situated beside Lillebælt in the historic Grimmerhus estate. Large windows face the water, while the surrounding sculpture park and waterfront setting create a distinctly Scandinavian atmosphere.
The reception felt relaxed and elegant at the same time. Guests enjoyed drinks, cake cutting and conversations overlooking the water before continuing later towards dinner in Odense.

Why Get Married in Middelfart?
Middelfart is, in my opinion, one of the most overlooked wedding destinations on Fyn.
Many couples immediately think of Odense, manor houses or coastal destinations such as Kerteminde. But Middelfart offers something unique: incredible variety within a very compact area.
Within a few minutes, couples can move between:
Historic churches
The old harbour
Waterfront promenades
Marina surroundings
Beaches
Forest areas
Modern cultural venues
Views of Lillebælt and the bridges
For wedding photography, this means you can create a diverse gallery without spending hours travelling between locations.
Another advantage is accessibility. Middelfart is only around 35–45 minutes from Odense by both car and train, making it practical for guests travelling from across Fyn and the Triangle Region.

Best Wedding Photo Locations in Middelfart
For couples planning a wedding in Middelfart, some of my favourite portrait locations include:
Middelfart Church
The Old Harbour
Middelfart Marina
The waterfront around Lillebælt
The surroundings of CLAY Museum
The Ceramic Route
Coastal areas west of town
Viewpoints overlooking the Little Belt bridges
The west-facing coastline is especially beautiful during the evening and offers some of the best sunset opportunities on Fyn.
Why I Love Photographing Weddings in Middelfart
As a wedding photographer on Fyn, I love locations that allow a wedding day to flow naturally.
Middelfart does exactly that.
Instead of spending large parts of the day in transport, couples can enjoy their guests, walk between locations and experience the town together. The combination of water, nature, architecture and Danish coastal charm creates a relaxed atmosphere that works beautifully for documentary wedding photography.
For couples looking for a wedding location that feels scenic, practical and authentically Danish, Middelfart deserves far more attention than it often receives.
And one more thing :
