Some weddings are large celebrations surrounded by hundreds of guests. Others focus entirely on what matters most: two people choosing each
other.
René and Olha travelled from Germany to Denmark for an intimate wedding in Christiansfeld, one of Denmark's most charming historic towns. Their day was simple, joyful and full of happiness.
As a wedding photographer, I often photograph international couples who choose Denmark because the marriage process is significantly easier than in many other European countries. For René and Olha, most of the paperwork could be handled online before arriving, making the experience straightforward and stress-free.
The wedding itself was organised in collaboration with Denmark Marriage Service, allowing the couple to focus on celebrating their day rather than navigating bureaucracy.
An Intimate Ceremony at Søstrehuset in Christiansfeld
Olha wore a modern white dress paired with elegant shoes and a bouquet of white flowers. Many international couples arrive in Denmark only shortly before their wedding and often do not know local suppliers or have time to organise every detail themselves. Because I photograph many destination weddings in Denmark, I have built a trusted local network that I am always happy to share with my couples.
For René and Olha's wedding, I worked together with KL-Art to arrange a bridal bouquet so everything was ready upon their arrival. Whether it is flowers, local recommendations, practical advice, or helping couples find reliable wedding professionals, I am always happy to help where I can. I know that planning a wedding from another country can feel overwhelming, and sometimes having a local person to point you in the right direction makes all the difference.
The atmosphere throughout the ceremony was joyful and uncomplicated. Nothing felt rushed, and the focus remained entirely on the couple and the significance of the moment. After exchanging rings and receiving their marriage certificate, they could simply enjoy being newly married while celebrating the start of their next chapter together.

Portraits Around Christiansfeld and the Danish Coast
One of the things I enjoy most about photographing weddings in Christiansfeld is how many beautiful portrait locations can be found within a very small area.
After the ceremony we explored the gardens surrounding Søstrehuset, including quiet pathways, elegant greenery, and charming architectural details. Despite the simplicity of the venue itself, the surrounding area offers beautiful opportunities for natural and timeless wedding portraits.
A short walk from the ceremony location provides additional scenic locations, while the nearby coastline can be reached within minutes by car. We finished the portrait session by the water, creating a completely different atmosphere and adding another chapter to the story of their day.
The combination of historic Christiansfeld and the Danish coastline gives couples remarkable variety without spending hours travelling between locations.

Why International Couples Choose Denmark for Their Wedding
René and Olha's wedding is a perfect example of why so many international couples choose Denmark each year.
The process is straightforward, ceremonies can be conducted in multiple languages, official witnesses are provided, and couples can often complete much of the administration before they arrive. At the same time, they get to celebrate their wedding in beautiful locations such as Christiansfeld, surrounded by Danish architecture, nature, and coastal landscapes.
For couples travelling from Germany, Ukraine, or elsewhere in Europe, Denmark offers a practical and welcoming way to get married while still creating a meaningful and memorable wedding experience.
As a photographer, it is always a privilege to document these international love stories and help couples preserve one of the most important days of their lives.
